Stayner Nottawasaga is a character in the fifth season of Canadian Boys. He is notable for being the first-ever Canadian Boys character to smoke on screen.
Stayner is a 33-year-old man of White English Canadian heritage. He has black-brown hair and dark blue eyes. He wears a short-sleeved white collared shirt, a light blue skort over navy-blue jean trousers, and a pair of silver-grey laced boots.
Stayner is a passionate smoker, and every time he appears on screen he is nearly always holding a lit cigarette in his hand, puffing out white smoke with a relaxed look on his face. Sometimes bright blue veins are visible around his wrists because of the chemicals in the smoke enlarging them in order to try to obtain fresher air. His teeth have yellowed slightly due to smoke eating away at the enamel and his gums. Stayner's habit of smoking appears to be borderline addictive, since he feels he always needs to have a cigarette in his hand or his mouth.
Stayner is a determined advocate of the freedom to smoke. If he sees a 'No Smoking' sign pinned up on a wall, he will simply move well away from the no-smoking area and have a good puff on his own. He disregards any advice telling him to quit or cut down on how many cigarettes he smokes per day, countering that this is his lifestyle and nobody else can make him change it.
- Stayner's name may have been chosen for him because it almost contains the word 'stain', referring to his slightly yellowed teeth (because of smoke eroding the enamel and his gums).
