Canadian Apparel was inspired by a trip to the Royal Ontario Museum which Toronto embarked on during his college years; at the time, the museum was running an exhibition on the Canadian fashion industry. Toronto kept notes and sketches of the outfits in his journal, and these eventually evolved into skeletal lyrics for a song that would later define him as a musician.
Canadian Apparel is an upbeat pop song which, lyrically, sings praises for the Canadian fashion industry, especially in its colour and allure.
